Guillermo Zayas Martínez
After spending more than a decade in the corporate world, the Puerto Rican artist Guillermo Zayas Martínez made the decision to study art and become an artist. He earned a Bachelor Summa Cum Laude in Fine Arts in Painting from the School of Plastic Arts of Puerto Rico, where he was honored with the Dr. Jose R. Oliver Medal for Excellence Department of Painting.
His figurative oil on canvas mounted on traditional racks, paintings are full of eroticism and sensuality, while his work in oil on canvas on two-dimensional structures of stainless steel has a kaleidoscopic view of the body where also the mystical and the erotic are present. Through the repetition of motifs taken from the body and the imposition of these images, one above another, ranging from the natural to the geometric, manages the bodies lose their original identity, to be part of another space, an intellectual space; encouraging the viewer to reflect on ways and their meanings. All his works are united by one theme: the body.
